After audience members complained that the Garfield County Republican was talking loudly, singing and using her cellphone camera during the musical, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert was escorted by security from a performance of ‘Beetlejuice’ on Sunday night in Denver, a spokesman for the city-owned Buell Theatre said.
Following “numerous complaints” from other audience members about unacceptable behaviour, two people were asked to leave the theatre during the second act of the touring Broadway show, according to Brian Kitts, a marketing and communications employee with Denver’s Arts and Venues, who spoke to The Denver Gazette on Tuesday. He stated that despite warnings from theatre workers during interval, the unnamed spectators maintained their inappropriate behaviour throughout the second act, at which time they were led out of the building.
The Denver Centre of the Performing Arts Broadway’s assistant director of publicity and promotions, Heidi Bosk, said: “We were told that two spectators were not following the regulations, which ultimately led to their being taken from the theatre. Information about our customers is kept private for privacy reasons.
Lauren Boebert’s campaign refuted the venue’s account of her actions, but it was made clear that the two-term congresswoman and another theatre patron were ejected from the play on Sunday night after she took an illegal photo during it.
Drew Sexton, the campaign manager for Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, texted Colorado Politics, “I can confirm the stunning and salacious rumours: in her personal time, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is indeed a supporter of the performing arts (gasp!) and, to the dismay of a select few, enthusiastically enjoyed a weekend performance of “Beetlejuice.”He mentioned that the musical was described as “zany,” “outrageous,” and a “lusty riot” by a local newspaper.
A Buell incident report states that there were three complaints made about the two customers “vaping, singing, and causing a disturbance.” Ushers warned the two that they “need to be respectful to their neighbours” and that they would be removed from the theatre if they “were argumentative” and argued they were responding to the show in the same way as nearby audience members.

The Buell staff got a second complaint about Laura Boebert and her friend shortly after the interval, this time stating that they were “being loud” and using a recording device. This complaint was made around five minutes into the second act. They resisted leaving when an usher wanted to talk with them outside the theatre and did so again after they were informed that doing so would constitute trespassing.(391) Surveillance video: Boebert escorted out of ‘Beetlejuice’ show in Denver after complaints – YouTube
“I informed them that I would contact Denver Police. The Buell employee noted in the incident report, “They said go get them.
The staff member said that the two customers “left the theatre on their own” and ultimately departed the facility after being informed that they may be banned after entering a neighbouring vestibule to radio for assistance.
The two theatregoers quarrelled with the personnel outside the auditorium, shouting things such, “Do you know who I am?” “I am on the board,” and “I will be contacting the mayor,” per the incident report.
Campaign manager for Boebert Sexton praised the show’s “fantastic cast, tremendous visual, and plenty of loud laughs for attendees,” adding that she “strongly encourages everyone to go see ‘Beetlejuice,'” but added “a gentle reminder to leave their phones outside of the venue.” The show’s run ends on Saturday night.
Police were summoned to the theatre to deal with a few customers who were causing a disturbance, but they were called off before they arrived, therefore no police record was made, a representative for the Denver police informed The Denver Gazette.
